Some people believe that their work is merely a means by which they secure an income to fund their actual needs and their lifestyle. Others wish to find a sense of satisfaction from the occupation to which they give considerable time.

Most people spend a considerable part of their lives as adults in the employ of a private or public work scenario, often in the secondary and tertiary sectors. In the ideal sense, a degree of job satisfaction can derive from this reality of employment.
In the field of employment, factors which could lead to the attainment of satisfaction in the workplace are usually concerned with personal choice, interaction between individuals, the realities of responsibilities and perhaps involve management processes and the sense – or absence – of camaraderie that is present. A notion of respect and concern for individuals in the workplace should underpin the realities of those performing work. When tasks are pursued based on perceived expectations by which appropriate outcomes are delivered or finalised, job satisfaction should be evident. Broader, identifiable aspects of performing work for an adequate sense of contentment include appropriate recompense and personal wellbeing.
Regrettably, personal satisfaction is not always evident in the workplace when personality conflicts, especially those of various psychological disorders, become evident in some individuals and may lead to resentment, unhappiness and distress. Personal attacks upon some individuals mean that there may be rancour or jealousy. History shows, sometimes, that intervention may not bring resolution and so dissatisfaction may ensue.
Consequently, harmonious relationships cannot always be found or expected as complexities of psychology can impinge upon even resilient individuals whose personal security may be eroded by unprincipled colleagues in the workforce.
